Throwing yourself out of a perfectly good plane
Wednesday 11th January, 2006 (David G)
For some time now I have been considering whether or not Areyougoingtoeatthat.com has some sort of moral responsibility. I’m still not sure if it has but it’s an issue that causes me some consternation. Has Areyougoingtoeatthat.com made the world a better place? Probably not. It’s certainly wasted a lot of work hours.
So in the interest of appeasing my guilty Western conscience I am going to try and put together a charity fund-raising type event.
Hold on, don’t go! I’m not going to take your money. This isn’t some hit up for cash. I’m not the internet version of the charity mugger*. This is me offering you a chance to take part.
I thought about this for a while and considered several possibilities. I could just put a link on the page for people to donate to. I may still do that but it’s not my great idea. My great idea is not really that great at all. It’s pretty obvious, especially if you read the title of the post.
A charity parachute jump.
Simple as that. There’s an airport in Maidstone that does it. You pay a stack of cash (I’ll confirm details to those interested… suffice to say, it’s in the hundreds of pounds) and they train you up on the Saturday and throw you out of a plane at 10,000ft on the Sunday, gravity does the rest. You can just pay for it out of your own pocket or you can get other people to sponsor you. If you raise enough money you can basically jump for free. I’ve never done it and a lot of people I’ve spoken to haven’t done it but are interested.
If anyone else fancies the idea then email me and I will keep you abreast of developments. Sarah has quite wisely suggested we do it after the wedding so we are probably looking at August. The suggested charity was Breast Cancer Care because I have been very interested in the benefits of their work from the first time I looked at a picture of Felicity Kendal and something strange and new happened.
Of course you can choose your own charity. Andy Message is looking into the possibility of getting his work to sponsor him and donate to their chosen charity. It’s up to you. I like boobs.
So if you are interested, contact me and I will arrange a date for us all to do it, we'll film it and put up our terrified screams on the website. People are quite welcome to chicken out at the last minute and not jump. We won't tell your sponsors. Our little secret.
* Although I may get myself one of those groovy tabards!

19/07/2007 16:37:12Chore Wars
Chore wars is possibly the greatest and nerdiest concept I have heard of in a very very long time. In effect this is a chore or domestic task management tool that awards you Experience points for each task you complete. Giving your nerd a real chance to see how he is levelling up in those bathroom cleaning skills. Im tempted. I really really am. Debbie, see if you can get Brian addicted to this instead of WoW!
