Teaspotting

Wednesday 8th November, 2006 (David G)

Choose caffeine. Choose tea. Choose Nescafe Gold blend and popping next door to borrow some coffee from that guy from Buffy. Choose chocolate. Choose Coke. Choose squeezing the tea bag to make sure it’s really strong. Choose PG tips and sitting about with clothed chimps wearing bowler hats having a cuppa.

My name is David and I’m an addict. I’ve been addicted to tea for about five years now. I didn’t really think about it until recently. Sarah has always noticed that whenever we go shopping at the weekend I always end up getting a headache. I suppose we thought it was just an allergic reaction to Matalan but I think I’ve cracked it. My name is David and I’m addicted to caffeine.

Here’s my thinking. I’m fine during the week. No problems at all. But at the weekend or whenever we go away I end up getting headaches. Why? What am I doing differently? The answer: not drinking tea.

It’s Andy’s fault. Whenever I’d go round his house he’d make me tea in his own special way, which was squeezing the living crap out of the teabags until the water was almost black. I can’t stand weak tea now. Especially tea that is just brownish milky water. It’s disgusting. I like really strong tea and it’s all Andy’s fault. He’s a caffeine pusher. I saw him round the school gates the other day handing out Tetleys tea bags to kids. Tetleys is a gateway tea.

Blame aside, the theory might be complete crap but I’ve looked into it and I’ve got all the signs. So, I’m going cold turkey. I haven’t had a cup of tea since Saturday. I’m just taking it one day at a time. It’s not been that bad. I’ve switched to decaf coffee at work. I did have a banging headache yesterday but today’s been okay. I read that it takes up to two weeks but I don’t think I was that far gone. We’ll see how it works out. I’ll let you know. Perhaps by Friday I’ll be screaming at unseen babies crawling across the ceiling towards me. I’ll keep you informed.

Do not give up tea, it has been provento help prevent mouth, throat and bowel cancers as well as a host of other properties. Just good old english breakfast tea!! I have recently started drinking tea again after being off for years!!

I'm a fan of the Sainsbury's red box blend, myself.

It's not quite the same but it's way better than decaf coffee.

It's nice to know I have the help and support of everyone around me. In the last 24 hours two people have bought me decaffeinated tea-bags. I've brewed up a mug and I'm just about to try it out. I did have a decaf coffee on the go but that went down the sink when one of the guys at work whipped out the Tetleys.

It has to be pg tips pyrimid bags for me, they are by far the best and strongest! Although I don't take breaks at work, I still consume vast amounts of the stuff. My name's Andy, and I'm an addict! However, unlike Dave I'm not a quiter, so have no intention of giving it up! Mmmm, caffeine goodness!

No one could possibly drink as much tea as Bad Andy - working from home it must be minimum of 15 cups a day. He gave it up for a month, and found it really hard to start drinking it again. I think we keep Tetley's in business.

Chore Wars
Chore wars is possibly the greatest and nerdiest concept I have heard of in a very very long time. In effect this is a chore or domestic task management tool that awards you Experience points for each task you complete. Giving your nerd a real chance to see how he is levelling up in those bathroom cleaning skills. Im tempted. I really really am. Debbie, see if you can get Brian addicted to this instead of WoW!
