Stuff that has happened
Tuesday 21st March, 2006 (David G)
It’s been a busy week.
Firstly there was the whole car-go-bang-bang situation. That has resolved itself now. They’re writing it off. It was touch and go and they had to get a specialist in to make the call. Think about it, a man whose job it is to decide whether something is a car or a piece of scrap. You would have thought it was obvious. I guess he’s the coroner of cars. I had visions of him pulling a white sheet over the headlights of my Puma and saying “I’m sorry… we lost him.”
So, they are cutting me a cheque. Not only that, but they are cutting me a cheque for more than the part exchange deal I looked into when I was thinking of buying an MR2 Roadster. The shame is that I had decided not to. Now it looks like that choice has been made for me. The trouble is that after test driving the MR2, I really didn’t like it and no other cars took my fancy. I guess I will be spending a lot of time at Autotrader.co.uk. Suggestions welcome.
Nextly there is the whole moving thing. Yup, we’re moving to the sunnier climes of Ridgewood. Sarah and I had always planned to move in the summer of 2007. The term on the mortgage comes up then so it would make perfect sense. I mean, who in their right mind would move the same summer as they are getting married? Am I right?
It came as quite a shock to us that when we decided to look into what houses were out there, that we would actually fall in love with one of the ones we saw. Still, that’s they way love goes, as the bard said. So we suddenly had to rush to get our house on the market and sold before some other scallys came along and put an offer in on the house. We came close to selling at the start of last week when a couple expecting a baby came to view it. We were confident that these were the people. They asked all sort of important questions like “Where’s your stopcock?” and “Where’s your gas flu?” which seemed quite personal. It turns out that those are the sort of questions you ask when buying a house. Must be something to do with bonding.
When they put an offer in at £20,000 below the asking price the illusion was shattered and I felt dirty for letting them know where our sockets were.
Then, late on Friday, a lady came to view the house and within an hour had put in an offer which we accepted. Within tens minutes we finally put a firm offer in on the house we wanted, which was accepted and now the whole thing looks like it’s going to happen. The next week will be a blur of solicitors and mortgages.
Talking of solicitors, I’d like to apologise to Carla. We pass each other on the way to work sometimes and wave at each other. I passed her this morning and waved completely forgetting that my usual car was lying cold on an autopsy table with a tag round it’s toe. Carla, the idiot in the silver Golf was me. Sorry, if that freaked you out.
We went to see the house on Sunday and were pleased to find that it was as nice as we remembered. We only just got there in time because we had been down in Brighton, which brings me to…
Thirdly, we went to Brighton on Sunday to make our wedding list at Debenhams. We spent an hour before the scheduled meeting to look over all the stuff we wanted. It was very ordered and controlled and we discussed exactly what we wanted and what we didn’t need. It was clear in our minds.
Then they handed us the scanner.
It was a blur. We just ran around the store zapping everything. I think we went mad with power. I expected a very short list of about 8 items and to ask everyone to buy Argos vouchers (we love Argos, but that’s another story). Instead we ended up with two pages worth. It’s not the biggest list ever and we may add to it.
Thanks to those people who enquired about my accident. You’ll be pleased to know that my neck is alright and that I will not be suing. Especially Howard, who doesn’t like people suing other people. You know Howard, he’s the one dating a solicitor. Good luck reconciling that one.
Add in a LAN party and it turns out to have been a busy week.
Well that was my week. How was yours? I’m still taking requests for blogging, so if anyone wants an avenue to vent their spleen then mail me and I will set them up with the same access that Nick, Kat, Jo, Howard and Ge already have. Or alternatively, just mail me something you want on the front page and I will display it for you. I am looking into a method of getting blogs loaded onto the website by sending emails to a certain address but don’t hold your breath.
Hope you are all well.

19/07/2007 16:37:12Chore Wars
Chore wars is possibly the greatest and nerdiest concept I have heard of in a very very long time. In effect this is a chore or domestic task management tool that awards you Experience points for each task you complete. Giving your nerd a real chance to see how he is levelling up in those bathroom cleaning skills. Im tempted. I really really am. Debbie, see if you can get Brian addicted to this instead of WoW!
