Cars and Football, my two favourite subjects

So, how do you buy a car for someone who can’t make up their mind which one to get? Simple, you don’t. We had a bit of a “thinking-outside-the-box” situation of Friday. Actually it first came up at the gym on Thursday. Between gasps for air I mentioned to Sarah that the car buying was not going well and that what I really needed was more time. My loan car is probably going to have to go back at the end of the week and I really don’t fancy a 20 mile walk to work. Luckily I had a plan. Instead of buying me a new car, we should buy Sarah a new car.

It sounds a bit back to front but it’s actually a pretty good deal. We had talked about getting Sarah a new car for some years now but never got round to it. This seemed to be as good a chance as ever. Sarah can actually make up her mind about this sort of thing. There are only a few models that she likes and it had to have 5 doors. Within two hours after deciding to go for it we had scoured Autotrader and found several possibilities, something I hadn’t been able to do in 10 days. On Saturday we went to look at a Ford Focus and after Sarah haggled an MOT, service, new headlight and a tax disc out of the guy we had a deal. That’s my girl.

So that leaves me driving Sarah’s old Corsa for a while. It doesn’t have powered steering so it will be good motivation for me to get a new car soon. I think I will save up for a few months and see what else is out there. I just need some more time to make up my mind and save my pennies.

Talking of football, the wedding invitations are in the post and yes, we are aware that the evening of the 24th is possibly an England match in the world cup and I’m pretty sure Sarah wouldn’t want people running off to watch the match on our special day. Now before some of you decide that you are “busy” that night, here’s the good news. It will only be an England match night if England come second in group B. Since we are up against Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago and Paraguay, I think we are in with a good chance.*

This means that I am REALLY supporting England this year and, more than ever, want them to come top in their group. I look forward to seeing Derek Beckham score some points and watch Gordon Banks save some nets. Yes, I love to see great players making football. COME ON THE ENGLAND, DON’T F**K UP MY WEDDING!!!!
